Settling In

A Calm Start For You and Your Child

Starting nursery is a big moment. Our settling-in process is built to make it gentle: up to two free sessions, your child's Key Person from day one, and honest updates throughout. Most children settle after just one.

Our Settling Process

Up to Two Gentle Settling-In Sessions

In our experience, most children settle beautifully after a single session, but we always offer a second if you or your child would like it. Sessions are free and calibrated to your family.

Session 1
You stay for 2 hours
Your child explores the room with you present. Meets their Key Person. No separation at all, just a gentle introduction. For most families, this is all that's needed.
Session 2Optional
A short taster with their Key Person
If you or your child would like a gentle taster before the first real day, we do a brief separation with their Key Person. Most children barely notice, and many don't need this at all.
Day 1
Their real first day
Usually a shorter day if that suits you. Famly updates throughout. A full handover at pick-up.
What helps most

A Good Settling Is Everyone's Job

Bring a comforter

A blanket, a toy, even a piece of your clothing that smells of home, small anchors make a big difference in the first week.

Keep handovers short

Prolonged goodbyes make tears worse. A quick, confident kiss + goodbye + "I'll see you later" is best, even if it feels hard.

Trust your Key Person

They've settled hundreds of children. If they say "go, they'll be fine in ten minutes," they usually are. And they'll message you a photo to prove it.

Parents Often Ask

Settling-In FAQs

The questions every new-nursery parent asks. Our honest answers.

We offer a maximum of two free settling sessions. In our experience, most children settle beautifully after just one, but a second is there if you or your child would like it. We calibrate to your family.

Yes. The first session is parent-with-child, your little one explores the room while you're there. If a second session is needed, it's a short separation so they build trust with their Key Person without you in sight.

Tears at handover are normal, and almost always brief. Your child's Key Person will comfort them and message you within 10–15 minutes with a photo update. If your child genuinely isn't settling, we call you immediately.

Nappies if applicable, a change of clothes, a comforter (favourite blanket or toy), and a bottle or water bottle. Food is provided.

Most children are fully settled within 2–3 weeks of starting. Some take longer, particularly babies transitioning from being home with a parent all day. Your Key Person will guide you every step.
