Play-Led, Child-Led, EYFS-Aligned
A approach that treats every child as capable and curious. Learning is led by their interests, not a fixed curriculum.
Every Child Is Capable and Curious
The play-led approach, developed in post-war Italy, sees children as protagonists of their own learning. We draw on that in three core beliefs.
Children lead their learning
What fascinates your child today guides what we do tomorrow. We follow the "hundred languages" idea: children express understanding through art, movement, sound, storytelling, not just words.
The environment is the "third teacher"
Our rooms are designed as invitations to explore. Natural materials, open-ended resources, and space that changes with your child's interests, not static toys.
Parents are partners
You know your child best. Handovers, the Famly app, and key-worker conversations are built around genuine two-way dialogue, not one-way updates.
EYFS-Aligned
We're Ofsted-registered and follow the UK's Early Years Foundation Stage. That means every activity also covers the seven EYFS areas, we just do it through interest-led play, not worksheets.
- Communication and Language, including Makaton signing (praised by Ofsted 2022)
- Physical Development, daily outdoor and forest-school sessions
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development, key-worker relationships, emotional-regulation language
- Literacy, stories daily, phonics play-based in preschool
- Mathematics, counting, shape, pattern through cooking, building, songs
- Understanding the World, forest school, kitchen visits, community walks
- Expressive Arts and Design, messy play, sensory, music, role-play
In Practice, Not Theory
Heuristic & Sensory Play
Baskets of everyday objects, wooden spoons, pine cones, metal bowls, that invite a baby or toddler to touch, bang, explore, and figure out.
Forest School
Regular sessions outdoors, mud kitchen, den-building, risk-benefit play. Builds resilience, concentration, and a real connection to nature.
Documented Learning
We observe and record what interests your child, not to test them, but to shape tomorrow's activities around what they love.
Real Conversations
Staff get down to child height. Questions like "what do you think will happen next?" matter more than "well done".
No Screens
No tablets, TVs or videos in any room. Your child's time at Mucky Pups Childcare is human, hands-on and real.
Key Person System
One staff member is your child's anchor, the person who knows their feeding, their mood, their growing-up milestones.
Watch Them In Their Element
A 30-minute tour is the clearest way to see EYFS-aligned learning happening in real time.
